PhysicsGenesis safety and dual-use boundaries

Purpose

The physics library should preserve scientific meaning while preventing autonomous generation from escalating into hazardous or weapon-enabling operational guidance.

Risk classes

  • Low: conceptual models, safe synthetic worlds, ordinary low-energy educational examples.
  • Controlled: standard laboratory concepts requiring routine controls and trained supervision.
  • Elevated: high voltage/current, ionizing radiation, high-power lasers, pressure/vacuum, cryogenics, strong magnets, high temperatures, rotating machinery, toxic materials, or advanced aerospace systems.
  • Restricted: procedural detail that materially increases capability in weapons, nuclear systems, high-energy systems, advanced sensing, critical infrastructure, or other sensitive applications.
  • Prohibited: content or workflows that policy forbids.

Detail levels

  1. conceptual — principles, qualitative relations, history, risks, and high-level equations.
  2. educational — safe simulations, low-energy examples, bounded calculations, and standard protective context.
  3. professional_review — detailed design or protocol only inside an authorized, reviewed, controlled environment.
  4. restricted — redacted or inaccessible to ordinary library consumers.

Required separation

  • Safety classification is not evidence for or against a physics claim.
  • The safety reviewer does not validate equations or experiments.
  • The physics validator does not authorize hazardous procedure.
  • Safety-only metadata may be hidden from the learner while still gating release.

Safe fallback

When procedure is restricted, retain safe value through:

  • conceptual explanation;
  • dimensional and scaling analysis;
  • simulated or abstract world;
  • hazard analysis;
  • validation criteria;
  • non-operational historical context;
  • professional-review requirement.
